Welcome Back To Sunday School!

We are so happy to be starting our new year in Sixth Grade Sunday School.  We enjoyed meeting each other on our first Sunday together and hope that those of you who couldn’t make it last Sunday will come to meet us soon!

We have a lot of activities planned for this year including plays, puzzles and Bible study.

Parents, the teachers this year are Hank DuPree, Al and Sally Eckford, Beth Kindred, Dr. John Knox and Melinda Tharpe.  Our typical Sunday routine includes 10-15 minutes singing time with the 5th graders, a snack, activities that support our Bible study and our Bible lesson.  We will begin a regular sequence of lessons after Labor Day.  Until then, we will be doing some “getting to know you” activities and some Bible study.

This month our memory verse is Ephesians 2:8&9:  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God–not by works, so that no one can boast.  We are encouraging the students to memorize these verses and will have small prizes for those who do!  We’ll be working on some of the memory work required in 8th grade Confirmation Class so that students will have a head start.

Students, we are so excited about all of you being in Sunday School.  We are honored to be a part of your faith journey.   You are starting a challenging new time in your lives as you begin Middle School, and we hope that you can rely on Sunday School time to be a relaxing, fun way to learn about Jesus.

During this year we will have some special projects.  We typically visit Shoreham Nursing home one Sunday to have fellowship with the residents there.  We will also have a Christmas service project and probably one or two more service projects.

We hope to use the Blog to provide information to both parents and students.  You can subscribe to this blog by following the instructions to the right of this entry where it says “Feed It”.

If you have any questions or concerns at any time, please feel free to contact any of the teachers.

Yours in Christ,

The Sixth Grade Sunday School Teachers

Christmas Sunday School Update

Wow!  You guys are AWESOME!  Many of you brought gifts for our Hickory Hills “adopted” family.  Ms. Bennett picked them up and they will be delivered to the family today (the 16th).  Now this family will have just as fabulous a Christmas as all of us will.  We have so much and it feels good to help others have a great Christmas, doesn’t it?

On to the Christmas play!  Don’t forget to practice your part for the Christmas play.  Almost everyone has a line or two and although you don’t have to memorize your lines, please practice enough so that you are very familiar with your cues and don’t stumble over the words.  Remember that we look very big to all of the four year old children.

Also, if you look at the right hand side of the blog you’ll see a Feed It! box.  If you’d like to sign up, you can get the blog e-mailed to you when a new update is published.  This is a work in progress for us, so we’ll be adding features as we figure them out.  We now have a link from the First Presbyterian Marietta website, too.

All of the Sixth Grade Sunday School teachers wish you a very merry Christmas season.

Welcome to Our Sixth Grade Sunday School Blog!

Hi to all of our sixth grade Sunday School class members! We’ll be posting info and other stuff as we continue our year.

First Item–Sunday School Project:  Right now, we want to tell you about the Sunday School Christmas project. We are “adopting” a family from Hickory Hills Elementary School. There are 2 boys who are ages 5 and 7, and 2 girls who are 11 and 13.

Please consider helping these kids have a very merry Christmas by bringing one age appropriate toy to Sunday School on December 14.

Second Item–Christmas Play:   Also, we are planning to perform a short Christmas play on December 21st for the 4 Year Old Sunday School class. If you would like to be in the play, please be prepared to be at Sunday School on that Sunday. We will assign parts and begin practicing this Sunday, December 6.

We hope you are already having a wonderful Christmas season. This Sunday we will be practicing the play, making a nativity scene and talking about the “Light of the World.”   Who do you think THAT is?
